What's Fresh at the Market in October

Check out the October harvest and happenings in the final month of the Des Moines Farmers Market. Though this is our last e-newsletter of the season, enjoy the market through October 27th!

Apples Abound: How many varieties of Washington Apples have you tried lately? Gala, Golden Delicious, Honeycrisp, September Lady, Braeburn, Fuji, and more... sample the varieties and bring home your favorites.

Stock up on Winter Vegetables: Yellow zucchini,  eggplant, peppers, potatoes, onions, cucumbers, beans, and more are yours for the picking at the market this month.

Pumpkins! Carve 'em, bake 'em, or toast the seeds... The Hmong growers have even made beautiful bouquest out of them.  Check them out near the middle of this month!

Shopper's Guide: Discover the wide variety of fresh fruits, vegetables, flowers, prepared foods and more.

Crafter's Schedule: Four crafters visit the market each week on a rotating basis. Find out who's here this Saturday.

What's Happening in October?

First Annual Chili Cook-Off
Saturday, Oct. 27, 2007

Sign up by October 24th for this year's Chili Cook-off, open to the first 20 contestants/teams that apply.  Shoppers taste and vote for which team wins the People's Choice award from noon till 2 pm.

Live music continues every week at the market as Charlie Spring, Texakyle and Salt Water Saints wrap up the final month of the market with their great tunes.
