Intern with the Farmers Market
Contribute your talents and ideas to the publishing of the market's popular e-newsletter, Buy Fresh by the Bay!
Do you love the farmers market and Des Moines community? Do you want
to help spread the word about the locally-grown foods, great community
atmosphere, live music, and special events that are down at the market?
Shoppers love the Market's e-newsletter, Buy Fresh by the Bay. It is sent to over 600 shoppers telling them what's fresh
and happening at the market each week. We want to continue that
tradition but need the help of on-going volunteers or interns to make it happen.
Don't have time? Consider giving a donation to the market to support us in hiring a professional contractor to do the work.
Time Commitment: Sign up to create three e-newsletters between
now and the end of the market season. Each e-newsletter takes
approximately five hours to gather information, produce and send.
The e-newsletter is published the Thursday before Market Day.
There are two aspects to this position which can be filled by either one person or a team of two working together.
Web Publishers
Do you have a good visual eye? Are you computer savvy? Grow
your skills in web publishing, database management, and photo editing
while helping to promote the market.
You will format photos, publish written content, and set up the
sending of the e-newsletter for the weeks you commit to. You
would be responsible for having the e-newsletter ready to send by the
assigned
deadline. Our web platform is Windows-friendly with training
provided. All remaining work can be done at home via the internet and
photo editing software which you can download for free if you don't
have any.
E-Newsletter Writers
Do you visit the market regularly? Do you love to write? Do you have a knack for promotion? We welcome
your creative ideas and fresh new story angles!
You would gather and prepare the e-newsletter's written content
which may include in-season recipes, coverage of special events and
featured musician, interviews with shoppers, vendors, and local
businesses, and short educational pieces on the value of farmers
markets. All text must be kept short and punchy.
You would gather information from the market manager, market vendors and
marketing team to gather needed information and ensure written content
is accurate and submitted by the assigned deadline to the market staff
editor. All writing may be done from home and
submitted via email.
