Gothberg Farm

Meet Rhonda Gothberg

Welcome to Gothberg Farms

Rhonda Gothberg is living her dream. A long-time resident of Skagit and Island Counties, she had always wanted a goat for family milk and cheese. In 2001, Roy and Rhonda bought a 40-acre dairy farm in need of much repair. After several years of hard work, Rhonda now has a herd of about 20 goats of which about a dozen are providing milk. She has also built a new milk plan and cheese-making facility and obtained a Washington State Grade A Goat Dairy/Cheese Producer license. High quality Chevre, Feta, Gouda, and Cheddar are the main cheeses produced with sales to restaurants, specialty shops, and farmer’s market.

Growing Philosophy

"I truly enjoy helping to create a farmer-to-customer connection at farmers’ markets and I remain most grateful for the overwhelming positive response to my products. It’s wonderful for a farmer or producer to hear this validation of the care and effort they’ve invested to bring quality products to market."

-- Rhonda Gothberg

Care of the Water and Soil

The farm uses absolutely no fungicides, herbicides, or pesticides. Gothberg Farm has worked closely with the Skagit County Conservation District to develop a "farm plan" and has implemented all recommendations by the District. The farm operation uses more than 20,000 pounds of bedding straw per year, with the straw and nutrient waste all composted for use on the family garden and orchard.

Care of the Animals

The farm's goats have access to the outdoors 24 hours-a-day, year-round. The does are allowed to go dry during the winter months and become pregnant according to their natural cycles. Rhonda has collaborated with feed specialists and the farm's veterinarian to design a carefully researched feeding program.  Pasture is available year around and animals are never confined to feeders except during milking.

No hormones or antibiotics are freely given. Animals that are sick and in need of an antibiotic will be given that drug as indicated but it will never be allowed to enter the milk supply. All milk is tested monthly by the state for quality and antibiotic residue. All tests have all come back 100% favorable!
