Golden Glen Creamery
Welcome to Golden Glen Creamery
Vic and Judy Jensen have been involved in dairy farming all their adult lives. Now, three generations of Jensen’s are working on the farm, located on 600 acres of prime farmland on the Samish River flats of Skagit County.
The Jensen’s herd consists of 350 milking cows, primarily Holsteins, with a small number of Registered Guernseys. Most of their product is marketed through Westfarm Foods as "Darigold Milk," but an innovative and entrepreneurial spirit led them to launch a farmstead cheese operation in 2004. Now, their wonderful artisan cheese products can be found in a multitude of local farmstands and grocery stores throughout the Northern Puget Sound region.
Products Available
Cheddar, Gouda, Mozzarella, Cheese Curds & Whey Cream Butter
Growing Philosophy
"We believe that our farming practices will sustain us in the future, so that more generations of Jensens can keep farming this wonderful ground."
-- Judy and Vic Jensen
Care and Respect for the Land
The Jensens are dedicated to their family farm and the long-term health of the land. They work closely with the Skagit County Conservation District to develop and implement sustainable strategies for the proper management of animal waste and maintaining the health of the river. More than 80% of the dairy’s fertilizers needs are generated on site.
With six hay cuttings annually and the cultivation of sileage corn, the Jensen’s Family Dairy provides nearly all the food their cattle need.
Dedication to the River
Vic is actively involved in ensuring the health of the Samish River, which provides the Southern border of the farm. He has implemented and completed a number of restoration projects, including placement of logs, root-wads, and rock "wings" to create scoured pools which hold water for migratory fish. He is also working with other local farmers and landowners on riverside tree planting projects and removal of part of the dike to return the river to some of its flood plane.
Service to Agriculture and Community
The Jensens are passionately dedicated to farming and the community, involving themselves in many organizations including Skagitonians to Preserve Farmland, Skagit County Dairy Women, Washington State Farm Bureau, Washington State Dairy Federation, and Young Cooperatives. Vic also serves as a commissioner for his local ditch and dike district.
