Indo Chinese Garden

Meet Say Chang

Welcome to Indo Chinese Garden

Located in the fertile Snoqualmie River Valley in Renton, Indo Chinese Garden is a lush green sanctuary.  Say and Chu Chang use extra low impact farming techniques to produce first class produce and vibrant flowers.  Say spent some time working on the family farm in Laos as a boy but primarily served as a soldier for most of his life.  He traded his rifle for a hoe and has been farming ever since.  Say has learned to farm primarily from other Hmong farmers.  On Indo Chinese Garden not even extra irrigation is used.  All of their diverse crops are dry farmed.  Indo Chinese Garden is in harmony with nature and the results are easy to see and taste.

Products Available

Beets, bok choy, broccoli, carrots, cilantro, cucumber, corn, dill, green onions, greens, lettuce, sweet yellow onions, parsley, peas, summer squash, and flowers.

Growing Philosophy

"Our family has farmed for many generations. After the war my family came to Washington. We worked with Steven Evans and King County at the Indo Chinese Farm Project in Woodinville beginning in 1983. We have been farming in King County ever since." -- Say Chang

Simply Farming

Chu and Say Chang, owners of Indo Chinese Garden are proud of their farm.  Most of the work is done by hand. A tractor is used for early season tilling and readying the soil to plant. After that, only hand-held hoes are used for weeding and minor tilling for periodic plantings throughout the season.

No Chemical Fertilizer, Pesticide, Or Herbicide Applications

Say doesn't use any chemical applications. He is fortunate to be farming on prime soil in the Snoqualmie River Valley. To keep the soil fertile he depends on proper crop rotation and tilling his crop stubble back into the soil for "green" manure.

A Healthy Environment

By virtue of their farming methods, Chu and Say are effective conservationists. They keep their farm environment healthy by keeping things simple, minimizing on-site and off-site impacts to the land, water, and air.
