Oxbow Organic Farm
Meet Luke Woodward and Sarah Cassidy
Welcome to Oxbow Organic Farm
Located in the fertile Snoqualmie River Valley, Oxbow Organic Farm is a role
model for agricultural land stewardship. The farm is certified organic
by the Washington State Department of Agriculture, as well as certified
Salmon Safe by the Stewardship Partners. Luke, Sarah, and their crew
grow a diverse crop of vegetables, berries, and tree fruit.
Products Available
Variety of organic vegetables, tree fruit and berries.
Growing Philosophy
"Working in collaboration with other local farms in our areas,
through efforts such as the locally based Sno-Valley Tilth, helps us to
continually improve our practices, learn about new resources and
opportunities, and contributes to creating a favorable environment for
farms in our area."
Water Quality and Salmon
Oxbow Organic Farm does not use any synthetic chemicals. They have generous
riparian vegetation buffer areas that help filter storm water,
preventing impact to the watercourses that dissect their farm. Luke and
Sarah have also been working with Stewardship Partners to enhance
buffers along the river side, oxbow, and drainage ways to help maintain
water temperatures.
Pest Management
Integrated pest management techniques are used. Pyganic (pyrethrin
based) is the only pesticide used to control flea beetles. Other
strategies include extensive use of floating row covers and leaving
areas for beneficial insect habitat ("beetle banks").
Community Outreach and Education
Oxbow Organic Farm serves as an outdoor classroom for the Environmental Discovery Program, a hands-on environmental education program created by Stewardship Partners and currently administered by Washington Trout. This program brings over 200 elementary school students to the farm each year.
